Improving adherence and accelerating treatment for oncology patients
A patient navigation platform helping hospitals close cancer care gaps across Africa

About the project
Each year, millions of people worldwide die from cancer, and often the cause isn’t the disease itself but delays in accessing treatment. To address this, global healthcare organization Roche developed RedPath, a digital platform that helps patient navigators coordinate appointments and guide patients through their care journey.
The platform enables hospital staff to follow each patient’s clinical pathway from screening through treatment while tracking missed appointments and the reasons behind them. That information then rolls up into a national picture, giving health ministries and program leaders the evidence to see gaps in care and identify where investment would make the difference.

Challenge
As the product was designed for hospital staff across African markets, it had to be accessible to users with limited digital experience, a need the existing interface failed to meet. The Halo Lab team stepped in to redesign the app and strengthen its underlying platform so hospital staff could navigate it with minimal guidance and rely on it for day-to-day patient coordination.

Our process
The platform had to serve two user groups under one roof: patient navigators coordinating appointments and stakeholders directing national funding priorities. We shaped our process around that split, building tablet and web interfaces on one system, strengthened by back-end work and supported by brand and launch materials.
App design
Because the app supported real patient coordination, every screen had to be clear, intuitive, and dependable, guiding navigators through complex workflows without adding friction.

Development support
The platform handled real patient data, so security and data protection were priorities. With this in mind, our team supported the existing system, reinforcing what was already in place to improve reliability and security in a healthcare setting.

Brand & launch support
As the platform grew, our collaboration expanded beyond the product to strengthen RedPath’s brand and visual language across launch, community, and internal touchpoints.

Results
- The redesigned and improved RedPath platform helped Roche scale patient navigation from local pilots to national programs in Ghana and Eswatini
- Our collaboration laid the groundwork for RedPath launch in the DRC, one of Africa’s largest countries with a population of 116 million
- The platform was configured and deployed in 3 new countries, with Indonesia underway and Mexico and Spain on the roadmap
- The national dashboard turned patient-level care barriers into evidence that health ministries can use to guide cancer care funding
- Distraction-free tablet interface made routine tasks easier to navigate for staff with limited digital experience
- Reliable offline sync allowed patient navigators to keep working with patient records and appointment updates during connectivity interruptions
- Back-end security improvements reinforced protection of sensitive patient data across the platform

Our approach
Strong results start with open dialogue. At every stage, we work closely with the client’s team, running workshops, gathering feedback, and refining ideas through multiple iterations. If your product needs the same level of care, contact us — and we’ll help turn complexity into an experience people can understand, trust, and use with confidence.
{{approach}}
“The Halo Lab team’s performance has been remarkable, with real dedication and the flexibility to adapt quickly as our needs grew from a product redesign into launches. RedPath had to work for navigators with limited digital experience on weak networks and for health ministries guiding cancer care funding, all while keeping patient data secure. Together, we scaled it from local pilots to national programs in several countries.”
