What is the main design problem now?

(that led to a loss of individuality)

When Jony Ive (CDO at Apple) suggested moving from realistic designs to flat design, it simplified things.

No one tried to find a middle ground between complex and flat design.

Result: clean lines and simple typos became dull.

The digital world is hungry for more engaging and visually exciting content.

As our gadgets provide new visual communication opportunities, flat design is transformed by adapting these changes:


- Volumetric Elements:

Add a touch of realism without sacrificing usability.

- 3d illustrations:

Back to realistic but clean illustrations. Something between sceo and flat.

- Physics-based animations:

Simulation of behavior of objects and forces in the real world.

- Sound design

Satisfying sound for a positive association with the action.

Want to make sure that doesn't happen with your design?

Readability tips each designer should know:

- Rules of thumb: font size> 12 px, line height for 2-3 lines = 100-130%, for 4+ lines = 140-170% (more lines - more %). Mind your font to tweak if it looks bad.

- The sky is the limit - and 50 to 60 characters per line for body text is also the limit. For mobile - 30-40. 

- Stick to 2 fonts and 3 font weights max. Try to limit the number of your headings and paragraph style to 7-10. 

Iterate until you exist.

My contact form redesign experience.

First.
We used a long form with a lot of questions and list boxes.
Result: long form times, high bounce rates.

Next.
We made 2-steps form: main fields on the first screen and listbox on the second.
Result: ignoring second-stage questions.

Now.
We use one screen form with a dropdown list.
Result: 100% form completion, less bounce.

Why we choose dropdown-list:

- more negative space on the screen
- familiar selection mechanisms
- not overwhelmed by too many choices

I’m not perfect, my team is not perfect, our works aren’t perfect...

In our industry, upgrading skills is not optional.

But I don’t lead any design projects, so I’m a rusty old-school. Right?

If a website doesn't make money

(or you think it could do it better)

Problem 1: no CTA strategy.
↳ Fix: make CTA short, use contrast color, accent on result.

Problem 2: slow loading.
↳ Fix: optimaze HTML/CSS and img, reduce redirects.

Problem 3: unclear USPs.
↳ Fix: focus on pain points, show personality, add proof.

Problem 4: unresponsive design.
↳ Fix: exclude unnecessary elements, redesign website.
