Project Luna

Designing a merchant-centric mobile finance app for the UK market

About the project

Project Luna is a B2C fintech project built around the idea of merging financial data and retail loyalty into a single experience that helps users better understand their relationship with each store.

The product is a consumer-facing mobile app that aggregates transactions from all linked bank accounts and regroups them by merchant, turning a fragmented multi-bank statement into a unified view of the user’s spending activity across retailers.

Challenge

Since the client aimed to enter the UK market, they needed a product that could cut through a crowded fintech landscape. With a concept in place, they came to us to shape it into a market-ready mobile experience that could resonate with financially savvy users and earn trust.

Our process

We followed a clear process that turned an initial concept into a coherent product experience, shaping its structure, design, and interactions into one consistent, dev-ready solution.

Results

  • Full UX system covering core user journeys and edge cases
  • Improved information clarity through refined hierarchy and navigation logic
  • High-fidelity interface ready for product implementation
  • Complete design system, supporting consistent product scaling in the build phase
  • Fully clickable prototype for early-stage product validation and testing

Our approach

From the outset, the Halo Lab team worked closely with the client to define the exact scope and shape the final product concept, based on which we created a user-centered design solution.

BOOK A CALL

01 Discovery & research

We analyzed key competitors across banking apps, loyalty platforms, and finance trackers to map structural gaps in how multi-account users track merchant spending. The findings helped define the product’s core positioning and target audience.

Deliverables

  • 8 competitors analyzed
  • Market gap map
  • Customer profiling

02 UX/UI design

We built the flow around a messenger-like interaction model, making complex transactions feel instantly familiar. Green accents on light backgrounds kept the interface clear, while charts made spending and cashback data easy to read at a glance.

Deliverables

  • Wireframes & user flows
  • 50+ screens designed
  • Component library

03 Interactive prototype

Once all screens were finalized, we assembled a navigable prototype connecting every flow into a single reviewable experience. It enabled product exploration and served as the primary artifact for investor presentations.

Deliverables

  • Clickable prototype
  • Presentation-ready demo

04 Design system & handoff

To ensure consistent implementation, we organized reusable components, styles, and interaction patterns into a single UI kit. The project concluded with a documented handoff package prepared for smooth developer execution and future scaling.

Deliverables

  • UI kit
  • Handoff package
