
OmniBuds: Powering the first ear-worn AI/ML platform with app and web experiences



About the project
OmniBuds originated as a research initiative at Bell Labs, where the team developed the core technology behind the world’s first ear-worn AI/ML platform for real-time physiological monitoring. The device integrates advanced biosensors with machine learning to capture and analyze vital signs such as heart rate, respiration, and oxygen saturation. Evolving from its research phase into an independent venture, OmniBuds set out to transform this breakthrough into a market-ready product for healthcare, wellness, and fitness applications.

Evolving from its research phase into an independent venture, OmniBuds set out to transform this breakthrough into a market-ready product for healthcare, wellness, and fitness applications.


Client’s challenges & expectations
The client needed to transform breakthrough hardware into a credible, market-ready product. Early app prototypes lacked clear user flows, firmware changes complicated testing, and there was no digital presence to engage investors or partners. The team also required a strong narrative to support funding discussions.
They expected us to deliver a cross-platform app for onboarding and vitals tracking, a fast and flexible Webflow site for investor outreach, and market-ready assets that bridged experimental R&D with a trusted product experience


Our approach
- Discovery & research
- Conducted competitor analysis, customer profiling, and value proposition mapping
- Built moodboards and user flows for both app and landing page
- Conducted competitor analysis, customer profiling, and value proposition mapping
- App design & development
- Created wireframes and UI concepts, validated with stakeholders
- Designed a modular UI system to support evolving firmware and testing needs
- Developed the mobile app in React Native, covering onboarding, device pairing, calibration, real-time vitals tracking, history dashboards, and developer mode
- Iterated through 6 months of development & testing, using TestFlight and TestFairy for distribution and QA
- Website design & development
- Designed the landing page structure and UI concepts to communicate product benefits clearly
- Built and deployed the site on Webflow, including animations and responsive design
- Collaboration & process
- Worked in weekly syncs (1–2 calls) with the client team
- Shared iterative builds and design updates for feedback and approval

Results
The project delivered not only a strong digital foundation but also a comprehensive end-to-end digital product and branding ecosystem for OmniBuds, establishing it as a credible and investment-ready health-tech venture. With the companion app now capable of pairing devices, calibrating sensors, and tracking five vital signs (heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, body temperature, and blood pressure), the product has acquired the essential functionality to showcase its market potential. The promotional website offered a professional platform for sharing the OmniBuds story with investors and partners, opening doors to new projects and closer collaboration.
