UI/UX design by Halo Lab for B2B red meat trading platform

About the project

PrimeXConnect is an Australian B2B platform for the red meat supply chain. Wholesalers, exporters, distributors, and food service buyers use it to manage inventory, pricing, and orders — replacing spreadsheets, emails, and WhatsApp.

Two user types — buyers and sellers — have tailored access to inventory, orders, and a Market Board where items are listed at fixed prices or offered for auction. Sales teams can plan and assign surplus stock quantities across global export markets within the platform.

Challenge

PrimeXConnect had a live product but lacked three features its users needed most: inventory management, a structured trading board, and sales planning tools. The client turned to Halo Lab expecting fast domain onboarding and UX that would integrate cleanly with a product already live in the market.

Our process

We worked inside PrimeXConnect’s existing product throughout, designing three major feature areas and building investor-grade prototypes without touching the product’s established foundation.

UX/UI Design

All design work, built on the client’s system, extended only where genuine gaps existed. Inventory, the Market Board, and sales planning each demanded distinct approaches to dense data and role logic.

Prototyping

The client needed investor-ready demos of complete workflows, not static screens. We built 4 Figma prototypes using component logic to recreate multi-step interactions across all major user journeys.

Results

  • Designs adopted immediately by the client’s customer base, with no disruption to existing workflows
  • Inventory management, a live trading board, and sales planning closed the product’s most critical functional gaps
  • Replaced manual industry processes — spreadsheets, emails, and printed allocation meetings — that had dominated the sector for years
  • Acquired by Nui Markets in December 2023, integrating into a global agricultural platform trusted by 17+ companies worldwide

Our approach

Working inside a live product, every design decision had to fit an established visual system, serve two distinct user types, and keep dense tabular data from overwhelming non-technical users.

01 · Research & analysis

PrimeXConnect operated across buyer and seller roles with a complex domain and a partially structured design system we couldn’t alter. We mapped existing user flows and domain logic through product walkthroughs before designing anything new.

User flow research and product analysis for B2B platform

Deliverables

  • User role mapping
  • Domain overview
  • Design system audit

02 · Inventory management

We designed the inventory table to cover stock on hand, planned production, and committed quantities, with surplus and oversold positions clearly flagged. Sellers could search, filter, and save snapshots — presets that functioned like browser tabs.

Deliverables

  • Inventory table
  • Filter snapshots
  • Surplus states

03 · Market board & auction

We built a trading board where sellers list products at fixed prices or for auction, and buyers place live bids. Sellers accept, reject, or counter from a table row; buyers monitor auction countdowns through real-time status indicators.

Deliverables

  • Market Board design
  • Auction flow
  • Status indicators

04 · Sales planning

We replaced printed spreadsheets with a structured in-product workflow. Reps select a cut, assign quantities to team members by export market, and see the available stock update in real time as each allocation is made.

Deliverables

  • Sales Planning view
  • Allocation widget
  • Assignee filter view

01 · Inventory & snapshot workflows

We developed a prototype demonstrating inventory search, multi-filter application, and the full snapshot-saving process. A rep searches for a cut, applies filters by location and date, then saves the view with a custom name for repeat access.

Deliverables

  • Search & filter flow
  • Snapshot-saving flow
  • Surplus view

02 · Seller journey

This prototype encompasses the entire seller journey: a buyer’s message is received through the chat widget, the rep checks inventory for availability, places an order, and confirms logistics — all on a single screen without navigating away.

Deliverables

  • Chat widget
  • Inventory search
  • Order creation flow

03 · Sales planning & auction

We prototyped two workflows: the surplus planning view, where reps allocate stock quantities across global export markets by cut and week, and the auction flow, showing how buyers bid and sellers accept, counter, or reject bids in real time.

Deliverables

  • Allocation flow
  • Rep assignment flow
  • Bid & counter flow
